Managing the Medicare Madness

As a payer class, Medicare is actually pretty simple. What complicates matters is the fact that patients can choose to replace their traditional Medicare coverage with a replacement plan, also known as Medicare Advantage. If they do not choose a replacement plan, they may elect to get additional coverage with a supplemental plan. Some supplemental plans follow Medicare guidelines while others cover even non-covered services.  Then there is the rare case when Medicare may not be considered the primary payer.

Compliance is Required

Because Medicare is a federal program, the other types such as Medicare Advantage plans fall under the same requirements and in some cases even more stringent. There are hefty penalties for violating any of the regulations with regards to Medicare patients.
